Homeschool Services and Programs

HEROES Academy works with gifted and talented homeschool students in and around NJ.  Find out about some of the services we offer for gifted and talented homeschoolers below.

Want to find out more about our homeschool services?  Attend our homeschool information session on Tuesday, September 13th at 2:00 PM.

Weekend Classes

Homeschooling doesn’t mean replicating the school day at home.  NJ doesn’t require homeschool students to “school” Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM.  As a homeschool parent, you have the freedom to decide when and how your child does school.  For parents that work during the week, flipping the school day so that your child does most of their learning in the evenings and over the weekend can take the stress off the Monday through Friday day schedule, and it can make it easier to find child care during your work day.

We offer accelerated math and language arts classes on the weekend.  These classes cover all of the core learning standards for these subjects, so you don’t need to worry about finding and managing a separate curriculum at home.  We provide students with homework to complete throughout the week, and we even provide your child with feedback on that work in between class sessions!

Academic Evaluations

Whether you’re just starting your homeschool journey or you’ve been homeschooling for years, figuring out where your child stands academically is a vital component to your child’s education.  An Academic Evaluation will tell you exactly what your child knows and is ready to learn.

Our Academic Evaluation includes a nationally normed standardized test (the NWEA MAP test) in both mathematics and reading.  We also administer a thorough paper-pencil writing placement and math placement test.

If you’re planning to use our Academic Evaluation to determine the next steps in your child’s homeschool journey, we highly recommend adding on a written report.  We’ll tell you exactly what standards we tested your child on and how your child performed on each section. We’ll also provide you with recommendations for how to proceed with your child’s homeschooling.

Afternoon Laboratory Science

Laboratory science is one of the most difficult and expensive classes to conduct at home.  Investing in science equipment that will only be used a few times doesn’t make sense unless you’re planning to homeschool multiple children.  Even then, the space requirements can be enormous.  Labs can be messy, and they often require a tremendous amount of parental involvement.  Because laboratory science is difficult to conduct at home, our science program is a popular option for homeschoolers.  We rotate subjects each year, so by continuing in the program year after year, your child will cover all of the major science strands (biology, chemistry, physics).

Classes Just For You and Your Pod or Co-Op

If your homeschool pod or co-op is interested in any of our math, language arts, or science classes during normal school hours, we’re happy to help!  We need a commitment from at least four students at the same learning level to create a custom class schedule.  We can offer any of our classes to your pod or co-op including, but not limited to:
